From desert to opportunity, we are restoring land, empowering communities, and building a climate-smart economy through gum arabic and carbon finance. Every tree, every batch, every credit is fully traceable and transparently verified.

Replanting Hope in the Heart of Sudan

Sudan is a land of extraordinary beauty and resilience. For generations, its people have lived from what the land could give — the acacia trees that produce the world's purest Gum Arabic, the soil that feeds villages, the rivers that once sustained life.

Challenges in Sudan

The Challenge We Face

Decades of conflict, climate change, and desertification have taken their toll. Forests have vanished, farmers have lost their livelihoods, and the land itself has been pushed to its limits.

Yet despite these challenges, one thing remains unbroken: the resilience of the people and the promise held by the trees.

Why We Began

For Kyoto Network, the journey began with a simple conviction: True climate action must reach the places where people need hope the most.

As a global sustainability and technology organization, Kyoto Network sought not just to trade carbon, but to solve real problems — to bring innovation, measurement, and accountability to communities that have too often been left behind.

For Mahgoub Sons Group, one of Sudan's most established agricultural and trading families, this mission was personal.

They have witnessed first-hand the challenges facing rural Sudan — the loss of trees, income, and stability. They understood that reviving the Gum Arabic forests was about more than restoring trade — it was about restoring life.

"Together with Kyoto Network we envisioned a new kind of partnership — one that blends international expertise with local heritage, and technology with tradition."

"Together, we're building a global benchmark for sustainable agroforestry — commercially viable, community-driven, and environmentally restorative"

Building the Great Gum Belt

From 2022 onwards, we began laying the groundwork — literally and figuratively — for Africa's benchmark in sustainable agroforestry.

Feasibility & Analysis

Comprehensive feasibility studies and ecological analysis were completed across eastern Sudan to identify the most suitable regions for large-scale acacia restoration.

2022

Seed Collection & Nurseries

Seed collection and nurseries were established, preserving native genetics of Acacia senegal and Acacia seyal to ensure biodiversity and resilience.

2023

Community Engagement

Land preparation was coordinated in collaboration with local communities and tribal leaders, ensuring participation and ownership at every stage.

2024

Measuring Impact

Baseline assessments were conducted for soil carbon, vegetation cover, and biodiversity to ensure measurable outcomes and long-term sustainability.

Today

Today, that early groundwork is bearing fruit — or rather, leaf. We are now managing over five million existing trees, restoring degraded areas, and celebrating the first new seedlings breaking through Sudan's soil — a living symbol of recovery.

Sustainable Model

A model that is commercially viable, community-driven, and environmentally restorative.

This is not a project built in boardrooms or policy papers. It is built in the fields, with the hands and hearts of Sudanese men and women who believe that the land can heal — and that healing the land can heal people too.

Replanting Hope

The Great Gum Belt is more than reforestation — it is reconnection. It is the story of what happens when global innovation and local experience come together to serve humanity.

Each tree planted is a testament to cooperation, to faith, and to the belief that even in the hardest of places, hope can take root again.
